Buying auto insurance through online rate quotes is easy and at the same time you might just save a little. The key is getting as many rate quotes as possible in order to have every possible rate.

People who are new to comparison shopping may think shopping for cheap Toyota Land-Cruiser insurance is going to be difficult. When shopping for auto insurance there are multiple ways to compare quotes from auto insurance companies in your area. The best method to compare Toyota Land-Cruiser insurance cost is to get quotes online. It is quite easy and can be accomplished by comparing rates here.

Auto insurance rates for a Toyota Land-Cruiser can be significantly different based upon several criteria. Taken into consideration are:

  • The performance level of your Land-Cruiser
  • How many accidents you have had
  • Multiple policies can save money
  • Use of your vehicle
  • Your age
  • Whether you are married
  • Special coverage such as replacement cost
  • What you do for a living
  • The amount of protection requested
  • Whether you rent or own your home

A final factor that helps determine Toyota Land-Cruiser insurance quotes is the model year. Older models have a reduced actual cash value in comparison to older models so repair costs tend to be lower which will push premiums down. But newer models may have a trim level with safety features including tire pressure monitors, autonomous braking, a collision avoidance system, and anti-lock brakes that may help lower rates.

How does the size and class of the Toyota Land Cruiser affect liability rates?

To start, let’s establish what liability insurance covers. This coverage protects you if you cause an accident. It pays for the other driver’s property damage bills and medical bills so that there is less risk of you being sued and you don’t have to pay out of pocket for costs.

This important coverage is so vital that most states have laws requiring drivers to have liability coverage. Not having liability coverage could result in you losing your license and being labeled as a high-risk driver.

However, the cost of liability insurance can make purchasing good coverage difficult if you have a vehicle that can do damage to other vehicles or a vehicle that crashes easily.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is a full-size SUV, which can pack a punch in a crash. If a car is smaller or less sturdy than the Toyota Land Cruiser, the smaller vehicle will suffer more damage.

Because of this, SUVs tend to have higher liability insurance rates.

The plus side of having a vehicle that is larger and heavier is that you are more protected in a crash, even if you have to pay more for liability insurance.

What does liability insurance cost for the Toyota Land Cruiser?

We went over quite a few rates earlier, but we want to cover liability rates more in-depth to find out which cars are cheapest to insure and if the Toyota Land Cruiser is one of them. To give you a sample of how much it will cost to increase your liability coverage, we got a sample quote from Geico.

Our sample was based on a 40-year-old male driver who lives in Pennsylvania. He has a clean driving record, travels 13,000 miles a year, and owns his 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser.

The first set of rates below are for bodily injury liability coverage levels (based on a six-month policy period).

  • Low ($15,000/$30,000): $38.77
  • Medium ($100,000/$200,000): $79.46
  • High ($500,000/$500,000): $127.91

Bodily injury liability limits are extremely high, as it costs much more to repair a person than a car. Because of this, it costs more to upgrade your bodily injury liability coverage than your property damage liability coverage (as you can see below).

  • Low ($5,000): $434.69
  • Medium ($20,000): $463.34
  • High ($100,000): $484.28

While it costs $89 to upgrade your bodily injury liability from low to high coverage, it only costs $50 for property damage liability. Both of these prices are decent, as the total for both high coverages is only $22 more a month.

What is the MSRP of the Toyota Land Cruiser?

You may have noticed the acronym MSRP before, as it shows up on everything from clothing tags to appliances. It means the manufacturer suggested retail price, and it is simply the price a manufacturer thinks their product is worth.

Most sellers won’t sell expensive products like cars at the MSRP value. Instead, sellers will mark the price up or down, depending on the seller, to the invoice price.

While some people will pay the invoice price, most buyers will pay what is known as the fair market price. This is the fair price others are buying the car for.

So what is a fair price for a 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser? According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2020 base model has the following price ranges.

  • MSRP: $86,740
  • Invoice Price: $77,771
  • Fair Market Range: $76,056 to $82,641
  • Fair Purchase Price: $79,349

The fair purchase price is about $7,400 less than the MSRP price but about $1,600 more than the invoice price. How much you’ll pay will depend on the seller you chose and the area you live in.

However, the MSRP will stay the same, which is why insurers use this price to determine average rates rather than invoice price or fair market range prices.

The main coverages MSRP will affect are collision rates and comprehensive rates. Both of these coverages pay for repairs for your vehicle after an accident.

Collision coverage covers accidents with other vehicles or objects. Comprehensive coverage covers animal collisions, natural disasters/weather, theft, and vandalism.

Collision and comprehensive coverage are not mandatory unless your lender requires you to carry them when you sign a lease, known as force-place insurance. However, we highly recommend carrying these coverages.

If you don’t have them, you will have to pay for your vehicle repairs out of pocket. So even though these coverages may cost a little more because the MSRP is high for the Toyota Land Cruiser, it’s better than going broke after an accident.

How much will it cost to repair my Toyota Land Cruiser?

Just like a high MSRP can raise your rates, high repair costs can also add extra onto your collision and comprehensive rates. Since the Toyota Land Cruiser is a more expensive vehicle, it stands to reason that repairs and maintenance will cost more.

The bad news is that RepairPal gave a poor reliability rating of 2.5 out of 5 to the Toyota Land Cruiser. This means the Toyota Land Cruiser is more prone to unscheduled repairs. such as breakdowns.

In fact, the average annual repair costs are $843 for the Toyota Land Cruiser; this estimate includes maintenance like oil changes.

This is high, as the average annual repair costs for full-size SUVs only amounts to $784. The Toyota Land Cruiser also has higher than average rates for accident repairs.

We used an online tool from InstantEstimator to get rates for level two damage to a 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser. Take a look at the estimates below.

  • Front bumper: $413
  • Rear bumper: $423
  • Hood: $411
  • Roof: $483
  • Front door: $403
  • Back door: $391
  • Fender: $363
  • Quarter panel: $375

The roof and rear bumper are the most expensive parts to repair for the Toyota Land Cruiser. Both will cost you over $400 to repair for just level two damage. More serious dents and structural damage could cost you even more.

In addition, these estimates don’t include shipping costs, as they are only based on body and paint labor, paint supplies, hazardous waste disposal, and the final sanding, painting, and buffing.

Depending on where you live, the repair shop you use, and the cost of any shipped parts, you may find your repair costs are lower or higher than these estimated repair costs.

What are the safety features of the Toyota Land Cruiser?

The Toyota Land Cruiser has some great safety features. Take a look at a list of safety features for the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser below.

  • Crash prevention: anti-lock brakes and stability control.
  • Crash protection: front-impact airbags, side-impact airbags, overhead airbags, knee airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and anti-whiplash headrests.
  • Anti-theft protection: vehicle intrusion detection and ignition disable device.

The Toyota Land Cruiser has a decent array of basic safety features, which means you may earn a higher discount. Insurers value cars that have features that help prevent insurers from having to pay out claims.

For example, if your anti-lock brakes help prevent a crash, your insurer won’t have to pay a claim for vehicle repairs.

Insurers may also use fatality data research to see how many fatalities occur for SUVs versus other models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Saftey performed a 2018 study on crash fatalities for cars, SUVs, and pickups, so we want to take some time to go through the data.

The first set of fatalities below are driver deaths per million vehicles for the three different vehicle types.

  • 23 fatalities for SUVs
  • 34 fatalities for pickups
  • 48 fatalities for cars

SUVs have significantly lower fatality rates for drivers. If you take a look at the all occupant fatalities per million vehicles below, you can see that SUVs once again have the lowest number of fatalities.

  • 32 fatalities for SUVs
  • 42 fatalities for pickups
  • 69 fatalities for cars

SUVs have over half the amount of fatalities that cars do. They also have 10 fewer fatalities per million vehicles than pickups. However, pickups do have slightly fewer fatalities for the total number of fatalities in 2018. While SUVs had 5,035 total fatalities, pickups only had 4,369 fatalities.

Still, SUVs fatalities were low compared to car fatalities, which totaled 13,138. Take a look at the breakdown of SUV fatalities by crash type below.

  • Frontal Impact: 2,784 fatalities
  • Side Impact: 930 fatalities
  • Rear Impact: 286 fatalities
  • Other (mostly rollovers): 1,035 fatalities

Frontal impacts and rollovers make up the bulk of the fatalities for SUVs. However, the overall fatalities are still low, which is good. This means that if you own an SUV, you may have lower average rates.

What are the safety ratings for the Toyota Land Cruiser?

You’ve found a Toyota Land Cruiser for sale, but is Land Cruiser a good car? Whether you’re looking at a Toyota Land Cruiser 2021 model or a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, you want a vehicle that will be reliable and safe.

Look at the Toyota Land Cruiser safety ratings is a good way to see what discounts you might qualify for, and what may cost you more money.

Unfortunately, no safety tests have been performed by either the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic and Saftey Administration.

Is it worth buying a Land Cruiser if no crash tests were performed on the vehicle? Manufacturers perform heir own safety tests, but it is common for less popular car models to go untested.

Toyota Land Cruiser Compared Against other Vehicles in the Same Class

Officially, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety classifies the Toyota Land Cruiser as a large luxury SUV.

Comparing the Toyota Land Cruiser to similar vehicles can help you save money, especially if the Toyota Land Cruiser has a better loss ratio than other large luxury SUVs.

For example, it makes sense to ask what is the difference between a Land Cruiser and LX, a Lexus SUV. Lexus is Toyota’s luxury brand and the LX is in the same vehicle class as the Land Cruiser.

However, asking what’s the difference between Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia is misleading because the Sequoia is only considered to be a full-sized SUV.

Take a look at some comparable luxury SUVs below.

Which vehicles are the most expensive to insure? Anything high-risk, meaning a car that is unsafe, expensive to fix, or more likely to get stolen.

Are Toyotas more expensive to insure? The Land Cruiser’s insurance loss ratio for property damage liability and personal injury liability is substantially better than average at -34 percent and -66 percent respectively. This is great news for your car insurance rates.

Unfortunately, the comprehensive loss ratios are substantially worse than average at 52 percent, which may lead to insurance rate increases.

What is the best year for a Land Cruiser? That depends on if you want a rugged model from the mid-90s or a more updated modern design like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Of course, there is also the adventurous Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series, which is built for off-roading. A brief read of the Toyota Land Cruiser wiki explains how this new model replaced the 24-year-old Land Cruiser 40 Series.

Whatever Land Cruiser best fits your personality and style, make sure you compare insurance quotes to secure the cheapest possible rates.
