Looking for cheaper car insurance rates for your Volkswagen Jetta? If price shopping car insurance online is new to you, it’s easy to get confused due to the large number of car insurance companies offering coverage.

It’s a great practice to compare prices on a regular basis since insurance rates are variable and change quite frequently. Even if you got the best price on Jetta insurance last year a different company probably has better rates today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about car insurance because we’re going to demonstrate one of the best ways to find the best coverage while lowering your premiums.

Quick Auto Insurance Quotes

There are a lot of ways to compare auto insurance quotes, but some are easier and takes less work. You can spend your afternoon talking about coverages with local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize the internet for quick rates.

Most car insurance companies enroll in a system that enables customers to submit one quote, and at least one company provides a quote based on that data.

The one disadvantage to getting quotes like this is that consumers can’t choose which carriers to get pricing from.

It doesn’t matter which method you choose, just be sure to compare the exact same coverage information for each comparison quote. If the quotes have higher or lower deductibles it will be impossible to truly determine the lowest rate. Quoting even small variations in limits may result in large price differences. Keep in mind that comparing a large number of companies helps locate the best offered rates.

You probably qualify for some discounts

The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but you can get discounts that can drop the cost substantially. Larger premium reductions will be automatically applied when you purchase, but a few must be specially asked for before you get the savings.

  • Driver’s Ed – Have your child enroll in driver’s education if it’s offered in school.
  • Drive Less and Save – Driving fewer miles can earn discounted rates on garaged vehicles.
  • Seat Belts Save more than Lives – Drivers who require all occupants to buckle their seat belts could save 15% off the personal injury premium cost.
  • Theft Prevention System – Anti-theft and alarm systems prevent vehicle theft and earn discounts up to 10%.
  • Discount for Life Insurance – Larger companies have lower rates if you buy a life insurance policy as well.
  • Resident Student – Any of your kids who live away from home and don’t have a car may qualify for this discount.

A little note about advertised discounts, most discount credits are not given to your bottom line cost. A few only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. Even though it may seem like it’s possible to get free car insurance, companies wouldn’t make money that way. Any qualifying discounts will cut the cost of coverage.

There’s no such thing as the perfect policy

When buying coverage, there really is not a cookie cutter policy. Every insured’s situation is different.

For instance, these questions might point out whether or not you may require specific advice.

  • How do I file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
  • Will my vehicle be repaired with OEM or aftermarket parts?
  • What happens if I owe more than my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta is worth?
  • Do I need motorclub coverage?
  • How much can I save by bundling my policies?
  • When should my teen driver be added to my policy?

Insurance coverages explained

Understanding the coverages of your policy can help you determine which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement.

Collision – Collision insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision coverage pays for claims like driving through your garage door, colliding with a tree, sideswiping another vehicle, hitting a mailbox and backing into a parked car. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Another option is to increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Auto liability insurance – Liability coverage can cover damages or injuries you inflict on a person or their property by causing an accident. It protects YOU from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. Your policy might show policy limits of 100/300/100 that means you have $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property. Some companies may use a combined limit which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.

Liability can pay for things such as bail bonds, medical services, medical expenses, loss of income and funeral expenses. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.

Medical expense insurance – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for immediate expenses for things like nursing services, hospital visits, funeral costs and doctor visits. They are utilized in addition to your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – This coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for things like rock chips in glass, vandalism and hitting a deer. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Volkswagen Jetta.

Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family. Usually these limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
