Tired of not being able to scrape enough together to pay high insurance rates every month? Your situation is no different than many other consumers.
Insurance companies such as Allstate, Liberty Mutual and State Farm all claim big savings, bombarding you with ad campaigns and it can be hard to see through the cute green geckos and mayhem and find the best price available.
It’s a good habit to compare prices before your policy renews because prices change frequently. Just because you found the lowest price on Shelby GT350 insurance a year ago there is a good chance you can find better rates now. You’ll find a ton of advice on insurance on the internet, but I’m going to show you a lot of great tips on how to reduce your insurance bill.
Free car insurance quotes
Most larger insurance companies such as Progressive, GEICO, Allstate and State Farm provide coverage price quotes direct online. Doing online quotes is very simple as all you need to do is type in the coverage amounts you desire into a form. After the form is submitted, the system orders your driving record and credit report and generates pricing information. Online price estimates helps simplify price comparisons, but the time it takes to visit multiple sites and type in the same information can get tiresome after awhile. But it’s also necessary to compare as many rates as possible if you want to find the lowest price.
There is a better way!
A quicker way to lower your car insurance bill uses one form that obtains quotes from several companies at one time. The form is fast, requires much less work on your part, and makes quoting online much more efficient. As soon as the form is sent, it is quoted and you are able to buy your choice of the returned quotes. If one or more price quotes are lower than your current rates, you simply finish the application and purchase the new policy. The whole process can be completed in less than 10 minutes and can result in significant savings.
If you want to fill out one form to compare multiple rates now, click here to open in a new tab and submit the form. If you have coverage now, it’s recommended you type in your coverages identical to your current policy. This helps ensure you will receive a rate comparison for the exact same coverage.
What insurance coverages do I need?
When it comes to buying adequate coverage, there is no “best” method to buy coverage. Every insured’s situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. Here are some questions about coverages that may help highlight if your insurance needs would benefit from an agent’s advice.
- Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
- What can I do if my company denied a claim?
- How many claims can I have before being canceled?
- Does insurance cover tools stolen from my truck?
- Does my medical payments coverage pay my health insurance deductible?
- How do I buy GAP insurance?
- Do I need medical payments coverage since I have good health insurance?
- I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
If you can’t answer these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, fill out this quick form or click here for a list of car insurance companies in your area.
Auto insurance coverages explained
Having a good grasp of your policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. These are typical coverage types found on the average auto insurance policy.
Comprehensive auto insurance – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first must pay your deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as hitting a bird, damage from getting keyed and vandalism. The highest amount your auto insurance company will pay is the market value of your vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Liability coverages – Liability coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. It protects you from claims by other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. Your policy might show liability limits of 50/100/50 that translate to a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged property.
Liability coverage protects against things like repair costs for stationary objects, structural damage, funeral expenses and pain and suffering. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but buy higher limits if possible.
Collision coverage – This pays for damage to your Shelby GT350 resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision can pay for things like rolling your car, crashing into a ditch, sideswiping another vehicle, hitting a mailbox and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. Drivers also have the option to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Coverage for medical expenses – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for short-term medical expenses such as funeral costs, ambulance fees, dental work and nursing services. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Coverage for uninsured or underinsured drivers – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.
